Robert Nickelsberg: ‘Afghanistan – A Distant War’

Robert Nickelsberg worked as a TIME magazine contract photographer for nearly thirty years, specializing in political and cultural change in developing countries.

Afghanistan –

A Distant War presents the events and personalities that determined the rise of Islamic fundamentalist militancy and terrorism after the Soviet withdrawal and the subsequent turmoil in the developing world. With 117 images and essays by five leading experts on the Afghan crisis, the book documents and narrates what happened in Afghanistan. It offers a profound visual perspective to the post-2014 political and strategic environment, after the Western forces conclude their withdrawal.
