Marlous Van Der Sloot: Le Corps Vecu

Marlous van der Sloot (1986) graduated in 2011 from the Royal Academy of Arts in the Netherlands, where her work developed towards the perception of senses.

Netherlands

In modern society we often forget that ‘the physical’ is also a source of information. Because of rationalization, we turned away from our primoridial world, convinced that our senses do not learn us anything valuable. Only the objective is worth to hold on to. But we cannot ignore our body and look at it as a ‘lifeless bag of cells’. We don just have a body. we ARE a body. Forgetting this gives us a feeling of a ‘sleeping arm’ In this condition your limb is biologically still yours, but you do not experience it as yours. It seems like the arm of a stranger….Le Corps Vécu is a body of works, focusing on restoring physicality to our overly rational minds, bringing us back in touch with our body and the sensual world around us.
