SLIDELUCK LONDON presents HUNGRY STILL

Slideluck London, a 501c3 non-profit arts organization, is a combination of a slideshow and a potluck and mixing things up is an essential component of our programming. Slideluck brings together diverse groups of people, artwork, food, music, ideas and perspectives under one roof. From this diversity something unique and magical is born.

United Kingdom –

Delighted to announce that Slideluck London has partnered with QUAD and FORMAT International Photography Festival in Derby, to celebrate the best artists presented in London since Slideluck’s inception in 2007, with a touring exhibition – opening in Derby on Saturday 15th March 2014, from 6pm – and a photo-cook-book.

SLIDELUCK (former Slideluck Potshow) is an international non-profit arts organization that aims to build and strengthen community around photography and food. It is a platform that exposes photographers, curators, collectors, and editors to new work, in a creative non-commercial environment.

After years of presenting Slideluck artists within a traditional formula consisting of a one-night projection of multimedia photography and a potluck dinner, for the first time, a new way has been experimented with a new project that translates the one-night event into an exhibition and a catalogue. QUAD Gallery in Derby will be the first venue to host the exhibition, between March 15 and May18, 2014.

The Slideluck London Retrospective, conceived under the name of Hungry Still, aims at fostering a synergy between photography, food and the photographers’ experience. How? The selected photographers have been invited to go back to their photo-stories, reflect and send a recipe that is somehow related to them. The intriguing recipes received are an extension of the photo-story, anecdotes, memories, dreams, some times related with the subjects photographed, or with the land and the culture of the place, or at times they make us escape from all that. Some artists have tapped into their family cookbooks, or their dreams or even asked chefs and friends to create a unique recipe for Slideluck London.

HUNGRY

The photo-stories and the recipes will be the protagonists of an exhibition and a catalogue that will have the double soul of a photo-book and a cook-book. Cooking these recipes will be like a jump into the photographers’ experience. The uniqueness of the project lies in the fact that the viewer/reader has the privilege to live these exceptional photo-stories and taste them in a completely new and multi-sensorial way.

Hungry Still is art directed and curated by Slideluck London co-directors Maria Teresa Salvati and Federica Chiocchetti, and Louise Clements, Artistic Director of QUAD and FORMAT Festival.

The 24 selected artists are the following:

AARON SCHUMAN            | ALEX WEBB  & REBECCA NORRIS WEBB | ALEXANDER AKSAKOV | ALFONSO ALMENDROS | ALVARO LAIZ | ARANTXA CEDILLO | BRYAN SCHUTMAAT | CAROLYN DRAKE | CATRINE VAL | CRISTINA DE MIDDEL | FAN SHI SAN | IAN TEH | JEANMARC CAIMI | JOANNA CHUDY | LAURA HYND | PETER DI CAMPO | PHILLIP TOLEDANO | PIERFRANCESCO CELADA | POULOMI BASU | RAFAEL AROCHA | SEBASTIAN LISTE |       SHIHO FUKADA | SOPHIE GERRARD | SUZIE BLAKE

Hungry Still photo-cook-book will feature the best stills taken from the multimedia presented during Slideluck London – and on display at the touring exhibition, an anecdote that helps the reader immerse into the soul of the story, the photographer and the recipe.

Hungry Still photo-cook-book is self-published. The curators selected the artist-led bookmakers Akina Factory as their strategic partners for the design and production of the book.
