Fotosemana 2015: Week-Long Photography Celebrations in Manila

Fotosemana Manila is the first event of its kind in the Philippines: a week of activities based around the many sides and current trends in contemporary photography, both local and global. This year the festival is focusing on fine art photography and the rise of the photobook.

FOTOSEMANA MANILA is the first event of its kind in Manila, Philippines, hosting one week of activities surrounding the many facets and current tendencies in local and global contemporary photography. The focus of this year is to introduce “Fotografía de Autor” and to celebrate “The Rise of the Photobook”.

THOUSANDFOLD (Philippines), with international partnership with IED Madrid (Spain), a leading institution for photography-as-visual-art-practice, and Emaho Magazine(India), the festival will highlight a Masterclass Workshop by acclaimed Spanish Artist/Photographer Nicolás Combarro.

In addition, the micro-festival will have a lineup of activities including : Portfolio Reviews by local and international guest experts, curated Public Talks and Slideshow Projections, Photobook Presentations, and Flash Book Launches, and an international Photobook Showcase in collaboration with the Asia-Pacific Photobook Archive (Australia).

FOTOSEMANA MANILA is organized as the inaugural activity by THOUSANDFOLD (founded by Wawi Navarroza), the first active space for contemporary photography in Manila, Philippines committed to the expansion of visual literacy through an updated library of local and international PHOTOBOOKS, a program of critical WORKSHOPS surrounding author-photography, and a project lab for SMALL PRESS and independent publishing. The initiative aims to contribute to the development, production, and promotion for more published photographic author-work from the Philippines. This micro-festival bangs the drums for the many possibilities of photography and the shape of things to come.

The event dates are from 18 to 24 May 2015 and will take place at THOUSANDFOLD headquarters in Taguig City and other affiliate venues across town.
