Iranian Photographer Newsha Tavakolian Wins 2015 Principal Prince Claus Award

Newsha Tavakolian is an Iranian photojournalist and documentary photographer. She has worked for Time magazine, The New York Times, Le Figaro, and National Geographic. Her work focuses on women's issues and she has been a member of the Rawiya women's photography collective which she co-established in 2011.

Netherlands – 

On 2 December 2015, HRH Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands will present the Principal Prince Claus Award to Iranian photographer Newsha Tavakolian. Newsha is one of the first professional female photojournalists in Iran, who combines photojournalism and art to offer new insights into the lived experience of people in Iran and the wider Middle East region.

The Prince Claus Fund honours 10 additional artists and cultural role models for their pioneering work in culture and development. The independent international members of the Prince Claus Awards Committee select the Prince Claus Laureates.

All 2015 Laureates will receive their Award at a ceremony held in the presence of members of the Dutch Royal Family at the Royal Palace Amsterdam on 2 December. The Prince Claus Fund Gallery in Amsterdamwill exhibit works by Principal Laureate Newsha Tavakolian 27 November 2015 – 4 March 2016.

For 19 years, the Prince Claus Fund has supported freedom of cultural expression worldwide.
